The Daily Next Steps Email Digest is an automated email that keeps deal owners accountable by surfacing overdue and due-today tasks every weekday morning. Instead of logging in and checking manually, you get a clean summary straight to your inbox — so nothing slips through the cracks.
How It Works
Every weekday at 8 AM Eastern Time, the system checks for any open next steps that are either overdue (past their due date) or due today. If you own any matching tasks, you’ll receive a single digest email listing them all in one place. If you have no outstanding tasks — congratulations, no email!
The email is only sent to deal owners who have at least one overdue or due-today next step. You will never receive this email if you have no actionable tasks. The system also verifies that you are an active member of the account, so you won’t receive emails for accounts you no longer belong to.
What’s in the Email
The digest is split into two clearly labelled sections:
🚨 Overdue Next Steps — Tasks whose due date has already passed. These appear first in the email with a red highlight so they immediately grab your attention. Each row shows:
- Company — the company associated with the deal
- Next Step — the name of the task
- Action — the action type (e.g. Call, Email, Meeting)
- Due Date — formatted in your account’s date format
- Days Overdue — how many days past due the task is
📅 Due Today — Tasks that are due today. These appear in a separate section below the overdue items. The columns are the same, minus the “Days Overdue” column since they’re due right now.
If you only have overdue tasks and nothing due today (or vice versa), the email will only show the relevant section.

Subject Line
The subject line is dynamic and tells you at a glance what needs attention:
- If you have overdue tasks: 🚨 3 overdue next steps need attention
- If you only have tasks due today: 📅 2 next steps due today
When both overdue and due-today tasks exist, the subject highlights the overdue count since those are the most urgent.
Who Receives It
The email is sent only to users who meet all of the following criteria:
- You are the owner of at least one open next step that is overdue or due today
- You are an active member of the account (verified against the account_users table)
- You have not opted out of the digest (see below)
- You have not already received the digest today (idempotency guard prevents duplicates)
Managers and admins do not receive a copy of other people’s digests — each user only sees their own tasks.
When It Sends
- Schedule: Weekdays only (Monday–Friday), between 8:00–9:00 AM Eastern Time
- Weekends: No emails are sent on Saturdays or Sundays
- Duplicate prevention: Even if the system runs multiple times in a day, you will only ever receive one digest per day thanks to built-in idempotency tracking
Opting In and Out
The Daily Next Steps Digest is enabled by default for all users. If you’d prefer not to receive it, you can opt out:
- Go to My Profile from the user menu
- Find the Email Preferences section
- Toggle off Daily Next Steps Digest
You can re-enable it at any time by toggling it back on. Your preference is saved immediately.
Tips & Best Practices
- Use it as your morning ritual — Check the digest first thing and knock out any overdue items before starting new work.
- Keep due dates realistic — The digest is most useful when due dates reflect genuine deadlines. If every task is overdue, the urgency signal loses its power.
- Pair with the Next Steps screen — Use the email as your alert, then head to the Next Steps screen in Subrise for the full picture, including filters, workload charts, and direct links to deal drawers.
- Don’t ignore overdue tasks — If a task is no longer relevant, complete it or update the due date. A clean task list means a more useful digest.
Frequently Asked Questions
I didn’t receive the email — why?
- You have no open next steps that are overdue or due today
- You’ve opted out in your email preferences
- It’s a weekend — emails only send Monday through Friday
- Check your spam or junk folder
Can I get the email at a different time? The send window is currently fixed at 8 AM Eastern and cannot be customised per user.
Will I get multiple emails if I have tasks across different deals? No. All your outstanding tasks are consolidated into a single digest email, regardless of how many deals they span.
Does my manager see my digest? No. Each user receives only their own digest containing only the tasks they personally own. Managers can view team-wide next steps on the Next Steps screen within the app.
